Beginners
Beginning band will start again on September 26th, 2024! Lessons will run Thursday evenings from 6:30pm to 7:00pm. Initially it will be small groups of one or two instrument types per week, but once everyone has started (about 3 weeks) lessons will include everyone every week. Choose from all the concert band instruments (flute, clarinet, bass clarinet, saxophone, trumpet, trombone, euphonium, tuba) then rent or purchase one. We recommend renting or purchasing from either Long&McQuade in Brampton/Toronto/Waterloo or from Cosmo music. Your cost is $75 and includes the method book we will use. Payment due on September 26th by cheque. Click here to begin.
Learning to play an instrument is fun! We learn to play together with others on a team and the results of practicing are a sense of community and belonging, as well as a new musical skill. It is fascinating to hear how all the different sounds come together to create recognizable music.
In September we start our beginners with how to hold the instrument, clean the instrument, breathing, posture and how to make a sound.
In November our second year players join our first year players.
Our first performance will be at a Christmas concert! Our second performance will be at a spring concert in May. The beginning band year finishes in May.

Purchasing an Instrument
Many cheaper instruments are produced with inferior metals and materials. These are often difficult to repair, and quick to break.
Please consider purchasing an instrument with a brand inscribed on the instrument such as:
Armstrong, Selmer, Yamaha, Jupiter, Bach, Benge, King, Buffet, Conn-Selmber, Boosey & Hawkes, Shilke, Zildjian, Sabian
We recommend purchasing from a reputable music store such as:
Cosmo Music Warehouse – Richmond Hill
Long & McQuade – Guelph or Brampton or Toronto or Waterloo
Local Repairs:
“The Trumpet Guy”, Jan (for brass or woodwinds)
Paul Ormandy for Percussion
